If someone were to ask you what was the theme of Jesus' preaching, what would be your answer? Man's need for salvation? God's love for mankind? The new birth?

To be sure, Jesus spoke about all of those things. And they're all essential truths. But none of them were the theme of his teaching. The theme of Jesus' message was the kingdom of God.

Wherever he went, Jesus preached about the kingdom. The irony is that the message of the kingdom is almost totally missing from the gospel that's preached today. As a result, a lot of Christians don't realize that the kingdom of God is a present reality on earth. In fact, they don't even know what the kingdom of God is. Consequently, they never make the kingdom commitment that Christ requires.

In The Kingdom that Turned the World Upside Down, David Bercot takes the listener back to Jesus' teachings of the kingdom - teachings that have too often been forgotten. Bercot describes the radically new laws of the kingdom and its upside-down values. There's no room in Christ's kingdom for superficial Christianity, for this is a kingdom that has historically turned the world upside down.

The Kingdom that Turned the World Upside Down will challenge you to the core in your Christian walk.

The Kingdom That Turned the World Upside Down (Audible Audio Edition) David W Bercot William Crockett Scroll Publishing Company Books

I just finished David Bercot's, "The Kingdom That Turned The World Upside Down."

Bercot focuses on the discrepancies between the Kingdom of God as taught by Jesus Christ himself, and the historical theological teachings of the Church as they have evolved over the past 2000 years.

While the entire book was enlightening and personally convicting, the most revealing section for me was the detailed explanation of how Kingdom Christianity was derailed early in the 4th Century by Constantine that elevated man's role and interpretation of the Kingdom, into complicated theological matters that not only confuse, but contradict the direct teachings of Christ. The changes made to Jesus' actual teachings have become so ingrained we accept them as unquestioned orthodoxy.

If you have ever sensed the discrepancies between what JESUS said and meant, and how we actually live and reinterpret His words to fit our "way of life," then this book will be an eye-opener for you too. Though various degrees of agreeing/disagreeing will inevitably arise with the author over the particular issues he brings to light, overall this book is convicting and deserves a lot more attention and discussion by all of us who claim to be followers of Christ.

The Kingdom That Turned the World Upside Down (Audible Audio Edition) David W Bercot William Crockett Scroll Publishing Company Books Reviews

Very disappointing. Born again Christian so I totally disagree with authors premise that we are under the Mosaic Law.
Bercot has a message here for all those interested in primitive Christianity ---- a good coverage of a little spoken about but nevertheless interesting aspect of the subject
This book will challenge you to re-think your approach to Christianity and confront you with Jesus' simple but not often followed commandments!
I have always viewed the New Testament as focused on a concept called the Kingdom of God, but like David Bercot I have failed to see or hear or detect the church viewing Christianity as an entity separate from the world. Remember, Jesus told us to pray as such in the Lord's prayer "Thy Kingdom come...". This may strike you as a small item, but it is anything but small. Rather, seeing God's church as something other than the Kingdom of God is tantamount to misinterpreting the whole of Scripture! What do I mean by that? Read his book and find out!
A must read for all sincere Christians. David Bercot misrepresents the topic of divorce-remarriage, and makes a couple of exegetical mistakes regarding scripture, but all in all, this is a brilliant book. With a few changes, I would score this book a ten out of ten. Still, for the average lifelong Protestant, Orthodox or Catholic reader, it will turn your world upside down. David Beroct has a very gentle writing style, and presents complex ideas in a clear and simple way. He is, currently, one of my four favorite authors of all time.
Written with honesty about the dedication and grit involved in living a missional life-- reading it is like drinking deeply from a spiritual well... and yet it's also convicting. Not because the author made it that way. The author tells of his life and his thoughts and decisions in a humble way that goes straight to your heart. I've had to read it in chunks because it's so compelling. If you are ready to dedicate your life to serving God, this book gives you a real perspective about what that looks like and what that means. But if you aren't ready to jump in with both feet--count the costs, as it were-- then you can still admire and be inspired by this story. Highly recommended for insight as to what it can look like to humbly serve God.
This is on my short list of most underrated Christian books of all time. It’s the type of book I really love to discover – one written by a relatively unknown layman but well written, well researched, deeply insightful, and Christocentric. It tells the story of Christianity from the early church through the Reformation as well as any book I’ve read. Its explanation of the Constantinian shift alone is worth the price of the book. Don’t judge it by its cover. Check it out.
